This workshop will serve as an introduction to live coding music using Sonic Pi. Sonic Pi is a stand-alone package which contains everything you need to start playing. Sonic Pi is an open source project founded by Sam Aaron as a tool for teaching children how to code. It later evolved from a teaching tool to a complete musical instrument with built-in synthesizers and samples. This workshop will introduce key concepts such as live loops, how to use the built-in synthesizers and samples, and how to use randomness to generate melodies and repeating patterns, and will have you up and running in no time.
This workshop requires no prior knowledge of programming or music, although knowledge of either doesn't hurt. You can download the software from the official website at http://sonic-pi.net/. All you need to do is install the software from the website, with no further setup required.
